GREELEY, Colo.—A man accused in the slaying of a Harlem Globetrotters trainer has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and aggravated motor vehicle theft.

The Longmont Times-Call reports ( ) Draton Mares appeared in court Monday in Greeley. A two-week trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 15.

Mares is accused of shooting and killing 42-year-old Thomas Bashline in November, then stealing his truck. Bashline’s girlfriend found the body in the bedroom of Bashline’s home in Frederick.
