While Santigold has not exactly been lying dormant during the past few years, the R&B songstress has not released a proper album since 2008. Santigold (real name Santi White) returns this spring with “Master of My Make-Believe” — easily one of 2012’s most inventive records. Current single “Disparate Youth,” with its neo-dubstep beat and hooks at every turn, is a likely contender for the unofficial “song of summer” designation (think “Pumped Up Kicks”). Santigold’s live show, hitting the Ogden Theatre on Tuesday, is built around costume changes, inventive choreography and audience sing-alongs. Tickets, $26.50-$30, are available through .
SoCal indie rock band Best Coast finds itself at a turning point with this month’s “The Only Place” — a conscious departure from the reverb-soaked “Crazy for You” that put the duo on the map two years ago. Bethany Cosentino’s lyrics are still heartfelt and lonesome, witty and nostalgic, literate yet accessible, though she now sounds far less like a hapless girl and more like a young woman. Will old fans embrace the evolution? They very well should. Tickets for Saturday’s show at the Fox, with support from Jeff the Brotherhood, are $20 through .
