The Colorado State Board of Governors will meet this morning and is expected to formally offer the chancellor’s job to Michael Martin.

Currently the chancellor at Louisiana State University, Martin was named a finalist for the job at CSU a little more than two weeks ago. Informal negotiations have continued since then. A majority vote by the board would allow board chairman Joseph Zimlich to make the offer and discuss terms of a contract.

When Martin was named as finalist, Zimlich said Martin’s experience at LSU, which like CSU is a land-grant university, would serve him well in Colorado — particularly at a time in which schools across the nation are facing issues with funding.

“Access and affordability is one of the top two or three issues and goals for us,” Zimlich said. “We had to take that into account (during the candidate search). There has to be a voice for higher education and for those values and how to get to as many people in the state as possible.” Anthony Cotton, The Denver Post
