This coming weekend is “free fishing days” in Colorado. All residents and visitors can fish without a license Saturday and Sunday. Bear Creek Reservoir has been producing saugeye; worm-tipped jigs and worm harnesses are working. Boyd has been good for walleye and white bass. Up north, smallmouth action at Horsetooth remains good, and most bass lures are working. Trolling Elevenmile with spoons is a good option for trout. Top water lures are a great choice on Denver-area bass ponds, especially in early-morning hours. North Park and Red Feather Lakes areas are great weekend choices for fast trout action on most trout baits and lures. But a fly and bubble rig is hard to beat come evening. Most of the state’s rivers are fishing well due to the lack of runoff.
