FORT MORGAN, Colo.—A Colorado man killed when his home-built airplane crashed and injured his daughter has been identified as 65-year-old Richard Tackabury.
The Fort Morgan Times ( ) reported the victim’s identity Tuesday. The newspaper reports that Tackabury was piloting the plane, which he had built himself. It was a twin-engine Air-Cam experimental plane. His daughter was the only passenger.
The crash happened Monday afternoon at the Fort Morgan airport. Morgan County Sheriff Jim Crone says the plane may have been trying to land before climbing again and then crashing.
Tackabury’s 42-year-old daughter, Laura Jean Tackabury, suffered serious injuries and was transported to North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
