AURORA — Police are investigating
two fatal Memorial Day shootings.

In the first incident, a man was
fatally shot in a parking lot outside an
Aurora bar early Monday morning.
Police are looking at possible gang
involvement.

That shooting happened about 1:40
a.m. outside the Du Rozz bar, 14569 E.
Alameda Ave., Aurora police said. Police were
called to the bar because a
crowd was becoming rowdy. While
officers were en route, dispatchers received
an additional call on shots fired.

When officers arrived, they found a
man with a gunshot wound. He was
taken to a local hospital, where he
was pronounced dead. The man’s
name has not been released.

A short time later, another man
showed up at a local hospital with a
gunshot wound that was not life-threatening.
He was taken to the hospital
by a private party.

In the second incident, police received
a report of shots fired around
11:45 p.m. near East Alameda Avenue
and South Ironton Street.

When officers arrived, they found a
trail of debris scattered across East
Alameda Avenue, leading them to a
car on the east sidewalk of South
Ironton Street, north of Alameda.

Police looked inside the locked
vehicle and spotted an unresponsive
man, so they broke out a window to
reach him. That’s when they discovered
he had been shot.

Officers performed CPR until paramedics
arrived. He was rushed to a
nearby hospital, where he was pronounced
dead. He was not immediately
identified.

Chris Fryer, who lives in a nearby
apartment, said he was sleeping
when gunfire woke him.

“That’s not good. That’s not good,”
Fryer recalled thinking. ” ‘Somebody
got shot.’ That’s what was going
through my mind.”

Detectives responded to the scene
and say an early investigation indicates
the victim was shot while his
car was parked in a parking lot at 306
S. Ironton St.

Investigators believe the victim
then drove north to the area where
officers found him. They say it’s still
too early to determine a motive, but
they believe the incident was isolated.
They do not have a description of
a suspect or suspects.

Anyone with any information about
either shooting can call Crime Stoppers
at 720-913-STOP (7867).
