COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A Fort Carson soldier accused of choking his pet rat terrier to death after it bit him has been charged with animal cruelty.
According to an arrest affidavit, Brian Christopher Jones allegedly told authorities he had strangled a stray black Labrador a week before his pet’s death in March. The affidavit says Jones allegedly said he had been hearing voices coming from his basement, and that in an attempt to quell homicidal urges, he strangled the dogs.
However Jones told Colorado Springs television stations he has been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder since his deployment to Afghanistan. He says the charges aren’t true.
Fort Carson officials confirm Jones is a specialist in the Army and is assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment of the 4th Brigade Combat Team.
