LAMAR, Colo.—The National Weather Service says storms that struck southeast Colorado over the weekend included a brief tornado.
Strong winds downed power poles and tree limbs in the Lamar area after storms passed through the Eastern Plains on Saturday afternoon. Hail the size of pingpong balls was reported, and 66 mph gusts were recorded at the Lamar airport.
Meteorologists said Sunday that the wind also tipped over a big rig, and a gas station structure toppled over.
There was a brief tornado about 2.5 miles southeast of Eads, but Kiowa County officials reported no significant damage.
