Several United Airlines customers slept on cots in Denver International Airport Friday night when their flight to Fairbanks was delayed by a Denver lightning storm.

Airline spokesman Charlie Hobart said the inbound aircraft meant to carry the 154 passengers was diverted to Colorado Springs. It was too late to reschedule a new crew for the flight by the time skies cleared. No other flights were affected by the weather.

Some customers stayed in hotels, while others braved the 16-hour delay in the airport terminal, some on airline-provided cots.

Hobart said the flight is set to take off momentarily, if it hasn’t already. The airline gave the passengers meal vouchers and will reach out to them to give additional compensation.
