A 53 year-old Denver woman was stabbed to death Saturday night and her niece, who Arapahoe County Sheriff’s deputies found covered in blood nearby, is suspected of killing her.
Deputies went to 8871 East Florida Ave. at about 11:57 after a report that a woman had been stabbed and another woman had fled the apartment on foot.
They found Mary Pratt with a knife wound to her neck in the apartment. Pratt was taken to the Medical Center of Aurora South where she died.
The woman renting the apartment where the stabbing took place told told deputies her niece, Nakie Pratt, 37, who was staying with her aunt, became loud and belligerent after drinking.
The aunt contacted another of Nakie Pratt’s aunts, Mary Pratt, and asked for her help in calming their niece.
“While trying to calm the suspect a physical struggle ensued which resulted in the alleged stabbing,” according to a release from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office. A struggle ensued and Mary Pratt was cut while trying to calm her niece.
A deputy found Naki Pratt covered in blood outside the apartment complex.
She admitted to being involved in the disturbance and was arrested without incident.
