DENVER—Secretary of State Scott Gessler says Teller County needs more help to ensure a fair election in Tuesday’s primary.
This week Gessler named former San Miguel County clerk Peggy Nerlin to be an official election observer. On Wednesday, he announced that he would also send two members of his staff to work with the county clerk to oversee the election.
The move comes after the county sent out mail ballots that didn’t include a signature line and an affidavit required by law. KOAA-TV ( ) reported that the bad ballots were sent to about half of active voters.
Gessler’s announcement included a statement from the head of the Teller County commissioners, James Ignatius, saying they fully supported the moves.
