Wilco last headlined Red Rocks Amphitheatre on July 3, 2009, three days after releasing its seventh studio album. The show was a long, emotional, hard-rocking affair highlighted by an extended and all-too-apt “Ashes Of American Flags.” Three summers later, the band is back for a two-night run with opening acts Punch Brothers and Dr. Dog. Wilco’s February appearance at the Fillmore was a bit sleepier than past shows, though a recent live simulcast of its set at Primavera Sound in Barcelona showed the sextet as alive and inventive as ever. Here’s hoping for some “Mermaid Avenue” nuggets under the stars. Tickets, $41.95-$50, are available through Ticketmaster.

John Prine played the first night of the Telluride Bluegrass Festival on Thursday and will make the trek to Fort Collins for a Saturday night show at Lincoln Center. It’s a shame that Prine’s set competes with the second night of Wilco, as a Prine tour stop seems to hit Colorado less than once a year — and it’s always, always worth the drive. He’s the workingman’s poet, a songwriter more concerned with truth than beauty and highbrow wordplay. He is, in its purest form, “folk.” And it’s best to hear him up close. Tickets, $59.50, are available through .
