PITTSBURGH — In a stunning trade Friday night during the draft, the Penguins sent center Jordan Staal to the Hurricanes.
Staal, 23 and entering the final year of his contract, rejected an offer of an extension from the Penguins. He will be joining brother Eric Staal at Carolina.
Pittsburgh received Carolina’s first-round pick as well as center Brandon Sutter and defenseman Brian Dumolin. The Penguins drafted defenseman Derrick Pouliot with the eighth pick.
Bobrovsky moving. The Flyers traded goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky to the Blue Jackets for three draft choices. The Flyers received second- and fourth-round picks in this weekend’s draft and a fourth-round choice next year.
Bobrovsky, 23, went 42-23-10 with a 2.73 goals-against average and .909 save percentage in two seasons with the Flyers.
