OMAHA — Todd Schmitz, coach of Missy Franklin on the Colorado Stars, has been named an assistant coach on the U.S. Olympic team, he told The Denver Post today.
The announcement will be made later Monday.
The 17-year-old Franklin, who has swam under Schmitz since she was 7, qualified for the Olympics in all four events she entered as well as three relays. She could become the first American woman to race seven Olympic events.
The senior-to-be at Regis Jesuit High School has the top time in the world in the 100 (58.85) and 200 backstrokes (2:06.12).
