Aurora police Monday arrested 29-year old George West of Denver, a man who is accused of leading police on a chase that resulted in a crash that .

West is being held for investigation of vehicular homicide, a class 3 felony.

Police were called to the 1100 block of North Clinton Street shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday, where a woman had been shot. She was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening wound.

As police arrived, a red car evaded them and sped away, leading them on a chase until the car crashed into another vehicle at East 13th Avenue and North Pontiac Street, more than 2 miles away.

The driver of the other vehicle, who has not been named, was killed in the crash, and three men in other vehicle, including West, were taken into custody.

The shooting that set the chain of events in motion remains under investigation.

Aurora has a policy on car chases that permits officers to pursue “when they reasonably believe that the suspect, if not apprehended immediately, would create a real and substantial risk of another person being killed or seriously injured” based on the suspect’s immediate actions.

West has been arrested several times in the Denver area, court records show. He is scheduled to go to trial in October on charges of possession of methamphetamine and marijuana, as well as driving under the influence, stemming from an arrest in Arapahoe County in October.

A protection order related to the case was filed against West in October, court records indicate.
