ENGLEWOOD, Colo.—A look at Peyton Manning’s day at Denver Broncos training camp:
PEYTON’S PLACE: Manning was as sharp as ever in another padded practice with replacement referees on hand to officiate.
HOW’D HE DO?: With top target Eric Decker sidelined by a strained groin, Demaryius Thomas had his best day yet catching passes short and long from Manning. Thomas put his famous stiff-arm on Terry Porter after one catch and on a wobbly, floating pass from Manning, he leapt to fight off Raheem Moore and Drayton Florence and hauled in a 35-yard touchdown toss.
TALKING MANNING: “He was a thorn in my side when I was in Jacksonville. I’m happy he’s on my side now. He’s just very good. He’s one of the better quarterbacks to ever play. He’s got tremendous command of everything he’s doing with the offense and he’s very demanding of guys around him, which is awesome. It’s really excellent work for our defense to be stressed every day with a premiere quarterback approaching his job the way he does. It stresses us every day to be better and to be at our best, and if we’re not, he makes you pay.”—Defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio.
