The public will most likely have to wait for a first glimpse of the events that led up to the shooting death of Denver Police Officer Celena Hollis
.
Rollin Oliver, 21, has been in Hollis’ death, after authorities allege he shot multiple rounds into a crowd at a City Park Jazz concert and unintentionally struck Hollis.
Though Oliver is scheduled for a status hearing at 8:30 a.m. and a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, the latter hearing is likely to be delayed as defense attorneys pour over newly turned over information from prosecutors, a district attorney spokeswoman said.
At preliminary hearings, prosecutors must show a judge that enough evidence indicates that it’s probable a defendant committed the crime.
Gang unit Chief Deputy District Attorney Tim Twining and Chief Deputy DA Henry Cooper will have to meet an even higher burden of proof in order to keep Oliver in jail without bond while his case is pending.
Arrest records that would lay out the evidence against Oliver have been sealed by a county court judge and police and prosecutors have declined to discuss the case prior to trial.
As the music died down at a City Park Jazz concert June 24, investigators say a gang-related fight erupted in the public park.
With hundreds gathered, Hollis, 32, rushed to break up the confrontation as Oliver allegedly fired several rounds.
Hollis was struck in the head and died on scene. .
