AURORA, Colo.—Aurora school officials are offering counseling and other services to students returning to school Thursday because about 50 Gateway High School students were at a movie theater when a gunman opened fire and one student died.
School officials are planning increased security and a crisis-management committee to help students, staff and others affected by the massacre.
According to the Denver Post ( ), about 40 parents and staff attended a meeting to get details from school officials, as well as Police Chief Dan Oates and two psychiatrists.
James Holmes, a former doctoral student studying neuroscience, has been charged with killing 12 people and injuring 58 during a mass shooting July 20 at an Aurora theater during a Batman movie.
