DENVER—An assistant district attorney in the 14th Judicial District has been appointed as the new top prosecutor there.

Gov. John Hickenlooper’s office on Monday announced the appointment of Brett Barkey to replace Elizabeth Oldham, who resigned this summer to become a senior deputy district attorney in Arapahoe County.

The Craig Daily Press reports Barkey ( ) also is the only candidate for district attorney in the district this November.

The 14th Judicial District includes Moffat, Routt and Grand counties.

Barkey is a fourth-generation Coloradan who has served with the U.S. Marines Corps. The Republican served as legal counsel to senior U.S. commanders during three tours of duty in Iraq.
