Two people were killed Wednesday afternoon when the Toyota Prius they were riding in ran off Interstate 25 in Thornton and into a concrete drainage ditch.
Their names of the man and woman were not released.
The vehicle was partially submerged in the drainage ditch in the median near 144th Avenue at about 2:15 p.m. Witnesses tried to rescue the two people in the Prius by hooking a chain to it and using a pickup truck to try to pull it from the water, according to Thornton police.
The man and woman were wearing seatbelts, police said.
