KELLOGG, Idaho—Authorities say a 26-year-old Colorado man died last weekend after falling from a window of a gondola car at the Silver Mountain Resort in northern Idaho.

The Shoshone County Sheriff’s office has not identified the victim and released few details of the accident.

Investigators say he apparently climbed out of a window of a moving gondola Saturday night and fell about 85 feet into steep, rocky terrain. They say the gondola car was in the upper stretches of a three-mile ride down the mountain and was occupied by the man and a friend.

Resort officials say it’s the first time in the 20 years of operation that anyone has tried crawling out a gondola window.

Authorities located the body Saturday night, but the difficult terrain prevented removal until Sunday.
