The University of Colorado Denver opened its newly located business school in the heart of downtown Denver on Thursday, with Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper saying it could not have come at a better time.

“That vision that the future was going to be more prosperous has really turned out to be true,” Hickenlooper said. “Now as we come out of this recession, there is a sense of optimism.”

Of the students, he said, “This is the perfect time to launch this building and really set these kids free.”

Hickenlooper touted how the six-story building, at 1475 Lawrence St., puts CU Denver business students in the midst of the city’s innovative business community — one, he said, that has never shied away from challenges. Novel and successful but unorthodox technology has been born in the oil, gas and mining industries in Denver, as well as other industries, he said.

The school, he said, will carry on that tradition.

The new location consolidates the business school — previously scattered across 15 locations — under one roof and “creates a hub of innovation, ideas and learning,” according to the school.

Dean Sueann Ambron
said the school is not just a building.

“It’s a place where we want to inspire students, and it’s a place where we look forward to working with business,” she said.

The business school offers numerous academic disciplines, including accounting, finance, business, decision sciences, information systems, international business, manage- ment and marketing.
