LOVELAND — Despite the sounds of airplane jets and roaring motorcycles, silence enveloped the Fort Collins-Loveland Municipal Airport when the body of Army Sgt. Christopher Birdwell returned home.
Veterans and fellow servicemen and women saluted his flag-draped casket. Family members dabbed tears from their eyes.
