An 11-year-old boy died after he was shot in the chest Friday evening in Weld County.

His 18-year-old brother was arrested and charged with criminally negligent homicide, Tim Schwartz, spokesman for the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, said late Friday.

The shooting happened around 5 p.m. in the 4200 block of Grand Teton Road in unincorporated Weld County south of Greeley, Schwartz said.

The boy was pronounced dead at 6:19 p.m., Schwartz said.

“They are in the middle of the investigation right now, doing a lot of interviews,” Schwartz said.

Few details are being released at the moment.

The boy was rushed to the North Colorado Medical Center where he died.

Police said the shooting happened at a family member’s house.

9News reported the shooting happen while the boy struggled with his older brother for the gun. Neighbors reported someone being led away from the home in handcuffs.

Police would neither confirm nor deny either of those reports.
