Investigators are still working on positively identifying a man who died in a .
The fatal crash happened about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday on West Colfax Avenue just west of the I-70 interchange, said Karlyn Tilley, a Golden spokeswoman.
The driver of a white, Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck was heading eastbound in the westbound lanes when his truck crashed into a Toyota Tundra.
The Chevy “exploded,” Tilley said. “It was completely engulfed in flames.”
Investigators are trying to determine why the Chevy was heading in the wrong direction.
The 35-year-old driver of the Tundra, a Golden resident, was not injured. His 6-year-old son was treated at a local hospital for injures that were not life-threatening, Tilly said.
The Chevy truck is registered to a Morrison man, but investigators have not yet been able to make a positive identification.
The busy road was closed for several hours after the crash.
