Matt Brown might just be a sophomore, but the Colorado Mines quarterback is playing beyond his years.
In Saturday’s 42-37 loss at New Mexico Highlands, Brown had threw for a school-record 601 yards. He was 52-of-80 with four touchdowns and two interceptions. The attempts and completions also were school records.
“We threw it and caught it well today, there’s no doubt about that,” said Brown, who is from Limon and last season as a freshman played receiver for Mines. “But in the end, we really don’t care about the stat sheet. We’re here to win football games and we didn’t get the W.”
Dropping to 3-1 overall, Brown has 1,715 yards passing this season (142-of-221) with 14 touchdowns and three interceptions. He’s thrown for 355 yards or more in all four games.
