An 18-year-old from Weld County was charged Tuesday with felony negligent homicide in the .

Jordan Limas told investigators he was struggling with his younger brother over the gun when it went off at their home on the night of Sept. 14. He had allegedly left it loaded on a dining room table, and his younger brother, Andre Limas, was trying to take it outside to show other children, leading to the struggle.

An arrest affidavit released last week by the Weld County District Attorney’s Office stated that after the older Limas wrested the gun from his brother he was backing away and the gun went off. The 11-year-old was struck in the chest, according to the the affidavit.

Limas is free on $30,000 bond in the case. His next court appearance is on Oct. 25.
