Getting your player ready...

Is Glenn Miller the most renowned musician to ever come out of CU-Boulder? Probably. Surely you know “In The Mood,” the quintessential swing dance-ready jazz song that sounds the way sepia looks. Miller, one of America’s most successful musicians in the early 1940s, left the scene to perform for U.S. troops during World War II. His France-bound plane disappeared mid-flight in 1944, and his brilliant career came to an abrupt end at age 40. The Glenn Miller Orchestra, which has performed under various incarnations since Miller’s death, carries the legacy forward and will stop at Denver’s Paramount Theatre on Saturday. Tickets, $34, are available through TicketHorse.

A more recent export from the People’s Republic, Big Gigantic, is readying for its biggest show to date: A multimedia extravangaza at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Saturday. The electronica duo with hints of jazz and funk are calling Saturday’s show “Rowdytown” — a marathon evening featuring Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Dillon Francis, Griz and Raw Russ — that will feature, for the first time ever, 3D mapping visuals at the Morrison venue. Tickets, $35.95, are available through Ticketmaster. Do a YouTube search for “Road To Rowdytown” if you dare.
