DENVER—Colorado recycling companies are scrambling after an Arizona waste paper company announced it is closing down.

The Catalyst Paper mill in the eastern Arizona town of Snowflake has been taking in about 30,000 tons of waste paper a month.

Eric Lombardi, executive director with Eco-Cycle in Boulder, tells the Denver Post () Colorado recyclers will now have to ship their waste paper longer distances, cutting their profits.

The company said it is being forced to close because the demand for its primary product, newsprint, is falling.
