Colorado State University is building an $18.5 million expansion of the Engines and Energy Conversion Laboratory in Fort Collins’ North Old Town.

The expansion is being funded by private donors, with major donations coming from Bohemian Foundation and Woodward Inc., according to a CSU statement.

Over the past 20 years, the lab has worked on projects as varied as electric grid improvements, developing biofuels and improving cook stoves used in developing countries.

The expansion will also house the Powerhouse Energy Institute and Center for the New Energy Economy, which is directed by former Gov. Bill Ritter.
