WOODLAND PARK, Colo.—Police in Woodland Park are checking out a report of a possible abduction attempt.

An 8-year-old boy said that a bearded man driving a blue Jeep approached him Sunday morning, opened the passenger door and asked him to get inside. Police say the boy ran to a friend’s house.

It’s the second such report in the community of 6,700 this month. A girl in a different part of town reported being approached by a driver with a different description and a different vehicle earlier.

Detective Sgt. Thomas Kinney said the city might normally have two such reports in a whole year, but two in one month is very unusual. He thinks parents have made their children more aware of potential danger from strangers since the abduction of Jessica Ridgeway in suburban Denver.
