 Denver-based said Friday it has agreed to acquire Sundance Helicopters Inc., a helicopter tour operator based in Las Vegas.

Air Methods said it will pay $44 million in cash for Sundance, whose primary line of business is . Sundance also provides firefighting support, vertical lifting and aerial photography.

Sundance has 150 employees and a fleet of 22 helicopters. It had revenue of $52.3 million last year.

Air Methods is the largest provider of air medical transports services for hospitals.

In a separate announcement Friday, Air Methods said it will purchase 42 new helicopters over the next two years. The company currently owns or leases 400 helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.
