Home prices in Denver in December were up 12.7 percent year-over-year while rent gains rose 8.1 percent year-over-year, according to a report released Thursday by and Trulia Rent Monitor.
According to the surveys, Denver ranked fourth among cities where rent rose the most in 2012.
Houston was first with a 16.2 percent increase; Oakland, Calif, was second with a 12.6 percent increase and Miami, Fla., was third with a 10.3 percent increase.
Seattle rents rose 8.0 percent followed by New York, NY-NJ at 6.9 percent.
Nationwide asking home prices in December increased 5.1 percent year-over-year, marking a “huge turnaround” from being down 4.3 percent in December 2011, said the report.
Asking home prices increased the most in Phoenix, which rose 26.0 percent year-over-year in December. However, the year’s most dramatic price turnarounds in the housing market occurred in Las Vegas and Seattle, said Trulia.
Nationwide rents were up 5.2 percent year-over-year. Throughout 2012, rent increases year-over-year remained about five percent, even though asking price increases accelerated and have almost caught up with rent gains at the end of the year.
