This week’s Denver hip-hop round-up is full of diversity. There’s a crazy head-banging track from BLK HRTS, a mind blowing array of word play in a freestyle from Url Gravy, a collaborative project from Kid Hum and Turner Jackson, a sexy and confident anthem from D’Girl and more.

Url Gravy — “Blast the Master”

Url Gravy’s “Blast the Master,” showcases the MC’s ferocious wordplay, hilarious confidence (he says he’s the sexiest motherf alive next to Prince) and real rapping ability. The beat seems to be carefully chosen, as it acts as the perfect foundation for Url’s non-stop punchlines. Look for references to spirituality (Url Gravy is also known as Phantom of the Chakras on this joint) and out-right rhyme dominance.

BLK HRTS — “BRK T M”

BLK HRTS do what they do best on “BRK T M,”(“Bark at Me”), which is rap with rugged and tenacious flows. The beat and a sample from the Stooges are paired in a perfect marriage of clanging bells, barks and overwhelming drums. The three rappers execute their verses with ease — F.O.E employs a double-time pattern in several places. From this new track it sounds like we should get used to this mosh-pit sound from the Denver trio as they gear up for the release of JZBL JNKS.

DJ Kid Hum, Turner Jackson — “In the Den”

Producer and DJ Kid Hum has aligned himself with tireless rapper Turner Jackson for a very short project dubbed F.E.B.U. (“F*** Everybody But Us”). The seven-song collaborative project finds Turner Jackson mimicking numerous rap flows with brilliance. On “In the Den,” Turner channels Detroitap Danny Brown with such acumen itap scary, and the production, short and stuttered, fits each track perfectly.

D’Girl — “Swagged Up”

“Swagged Up” will appear on an upcoming project from D’Girl and the track is confident and perfect as a club banger. D’Girl’s rap execution is always controlled and easily accessible to most listeners. She raps about her gold jewelry, expensive accessories and unflappable presence as a strong woman with such ease, the song is over before you realize how dope her verses actually are. Listen to this one more than once.

Foodchain Music —Electronic Press Kit

Last we heard from Foodchain Music, the crew was fresh off a headlining performance at the Bluebird Theater. From the looks of it, the four MC’s and live band are gearing up to record new music and redefine its image. The EPK takes you down memory lane with the band and features live performance footage, hilarious stories about making the music and the evolution of the Foodchain.
