Getting your player ready...

Here are the best Denver shows that you should be at this week (March 1-7). Reverb will be there, and you can chat with us about it on Twitter @RVRB or check out our pictures from the shows on our Instagram at Heyreverb.

4) The Greater Than Social Club: Adam Cayton-Holland, Bad Weather California, Wednesday, Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret, $10

The new Greater Than Social Club is proving once a month that comedy and music can exist in the same event — and be really fun instead of confusing and awkward. To use lame cooking analogies, the event’s combination of music and comedy has been more like chocolate and peanut butter rather than oil and vinegar. comedian Sean Patton and A. Tom Collins. On March 6 at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret the Social Club returns with another great matchup of Adam Cayton-Holland, the Denver comedian who just performed on Jimmy Fallon, and Bad Weather California.

3) Menomena, Friday, Bluebird Theater, $16-$18

Any band that has a drummer who sings is fun to see live. It’s honestly not fair that some people are coordinated enough to move every limb individually and control drumsticks with every diget while combining a rhythm and harmonic instrument. It’s like some sort of carnival act. But what makes Menomena even more exciting is how often each member swaps instruments during a live set. Also, Menomena is such a fun word to say, and all day you can tell your friends, “I’m going to Menomena, that’s Menomena. Menomena. Menomena. Menomena.” It’s so gratifying.

2) Passion Pit, Friday, 1stBank Center, $37.65

There’s a playful, childish joy to Passion Pitap music. Itap upbeat and happy, to the point that these guys seem like they were raised by Care Bears. But then you listen to lyrics like, “I drink a gin and take a couple of more pills,” and “I’m so self-loathing that itap hard for me to see,” and you feel conflicting emotions. When the band plays 1stBank Center on Friday night, you can choose how to enjoy the show. Be the brooding person dissecting and connecting to the lyrics or the one dancing and enjoying the upbeat music and infectious pop melodies. ($37.65, 1stbankcenter.com)

1) Youth Lagoon, Friday, Larimer Lounge, sold out

Two years after releasing his fantastic debut album as Youth Lagoon, musician Trevor Powers is back with his second album, “Dropla,” due Tuesday. But before we get a chance to listen to it in full, we can hear the material live at the Larimer Lounge on Friday. Powers taps into a vulnerability in his music that most artists don’t have the courage to face, and seeing him produce this live could be a truly powerful experience. Judging from his first single from the upcoming album, there’s more going on in the music than just a guy pouring his heart out with a keyboard, which should make for a far more interesting show. (Sold out, larimerlounge.com)
