Now, this is probably an incredibly elaborate April Fool’s joke or the greatest real, non-prank news that just happens to be about pranks.
Gotye is in a new hidden-camera reality show called “GOTYE!”, pronounced “got ya!” according to . The “musical variety prank program” is going to include man-on-the-street segments, hidden camera goofs, topical sketches, flashmobs and, to close out the show each night, a “brand new pop song parody” written by the artist himself.
Here’s the description from the :
“A man enters a grocery store, where the P.A. is playing the song ‘Somebody That You Used To Know.’ Thinking nothing of it, he gathers his items and brings them to the till. There, a young grocer in his early 30s starts singing along with the song. All of a sudden, he rips off his apron, grabs an acoustic guitar and starts belting out the tune. Soon, the entire store reveals that they were in on the joke and break into a choreographed dance. Then, right at the end, they all scream ‘GOTYE!'”
The show will premiere in late 2014 on a network TBA. Watch the trailer below that makes it seem even more obvious that it’s an April Fool’s joke:
