GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—A former Grand Junction hotel owner who became a professional gambler in England has been sentenced to 20 years in prison over his wife’s death, with credit for time served.
Marcus Bebb-Jones pleaded guilty in February to second-degree murder in the heat of passion. The Daily Sentinel reports ( ) that before he was sentenced Wednesday in Glenwood Springs, Bebb-Jones said he didn’t intentionally kill Sabrina Bebb-Jones but that what he did was wrong.
Sabrina Bebb-Jones disappeared in 1997. A Garfield County rancher found her skull in 2004.
Marcus Bebb-Jones later was arrested by British police and was extradited to face charges.
Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallario issued a written statement Wednesday saying the plea deal that let Bebb-Jones avoid a first-degree murder charge also let him “skate” a life sentence.
