COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Three Great Horned owlets that were nesting in a Colorado Springs neighborhood that burned in the Waldo Canyon Fire have a new home.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesman Michael Seraphin says the owlets were moved from the Mountain Shadows area to the Ellicott Wildlife Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, partly for their protection and that of the public.
Since the weekend, crowds had been gathering to try to catch a glimpse of the owls, and police issued citations to people for standing in the road and blocking traffic.
The Gazette reports ( ) the owlets will eventually be released into the wild once they can fend for themselves.
The owlets’ parents will remain in the Mountain Shadows area. Seraphin says the adult owls can fend for themselves.
