Hold your horses and hang onto your hats: Milliners were doing a land-office business over the past couple of weeks as hundreds, if not thousands, of Denver-area residents raced toward the finish line in search of the perfect topper for dozens of parties where hats were de rigueur for both ladies and gents.
We received invitations to 14 events held in conjunction with the Kentucky Derby; no doubt there were many more. We sent photographer Steve Peterson to Jockeys, Juleps & Jazz, held at the Four Seasons Hotel as a benefit for , and the Boulder Derby Party, where the 139th Run for the Roses was enjoyed by supporters of . It was held at the Stadium Club on the University of Colorado Boulder campus.
Peterson photographed some spectacular chapeaux at the second annual It also was the occasion for the Latinas First Foundation to present Trailblazer awards to Linda Alvarado, Polly Baca, Fernie Baca, Lucia Guzman and 14 other community leaders, and at Women With Hattitude, which raised $20,000 for the at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
