ASPEN, Colo.—A former lawyer for the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority has pleaded guilty to charges of using an agency credit card for personal benefit.
The Aspen Times reports ( ) Walter Mathews IV pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony and misdemeanor theft counts.
He was accused of using the card for golf outings while claiming he was at professional conferences.
Prosecutors say Mathews has paid more than $30,000 in restitution. They recommended a deferred judgment with no jail time.
The judge says Mathews could emerge with no felony conviction on his record if he complies with the conditions of his sentence, which will be determined June 25. The judge ordered a pre-sentencing investigation.
The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority provides bus service in six western Colorado communities from Glenwood Springs to Aspen.
