PUEBLO, Colo.—Jurors in Pueblo have convicted a man of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a girl who escaped and called 911.

Colorado Springs television station KKTV reports () jurors convicted Jose Humberto Garcia on Wednesday of second-degree kidnapping, sexual assault on a child, and child abuse.

Garcia’s attorney had argued the DNA evidence in the case was inconclusive.

The girl was reported missing after failing to return home from her elementary school in January 2012. Police say that the next day, after her kidnapper’s vehicle broke down in Colorado Springs, a passerby gave the girl and her abductor a ride to a convenience store. The girl ran inside and called 911, prompting the kidnapper to flee.
