LONGMONT — A man accused of kidnapping his 3-year-old son from a Longmont home on May 25 and fleeing with the boy to Canada will remain behind bars in Winnipeg until a deportation hearing that could be as soon as this Friday or as late as July 2.
Global Winnipeg reports that the Canadian Border Service Agency is awaiting investigative documents from Colorado before hearing Monty Turner’s deportation case. If the documents are not in hand by Friday, the hearing was tentatively set for July 2 to accommodate his attorney’s availability.
According to police, Monty Turner forced his way into his estranged wife’s home, shocked Brandy Turner with a stun gun and shot her with pepper spray.
With Brandy Turner disabled, he reportedly took their son and left with him on a bike. While a neighbor gave chase, the father and son disappeared, sparking an Amber Alert and nationwide search for the boy. He and the boy were found in Canada the next day.
Monty’s father, Ronald Turner, was arrested in Missouri on May 26 and remains jailed.
Boulder prosecutor Katharina Booth said on Tuesday that Ronald Turner is fighting extradition from Missouri, where he is being held on a Boulder County warrant on suspicion of complicity to commit second-degree kidnapping. Monty Turner was arrested in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, about 27 hours after Luke was reported missing.
Monty Turner appeared via telephone for his court hearing in Winnipeg on Tuesday afternoon.
