On Sept. 11, Denver’s Civic Center Park will host Colorado Remembers 9/11, a free event in observance of the 15th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Organized by the Counterterrorism Education Learning Lab (CELL) and led by Gov. John Hickenlooper and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, the commemoration will honor victims of the attack as well as America’s first responders and members of the U.S. armed forces.

The Denver Post-sponsored event will run from noon to 5 p.m. on Sept. 11, a Sunday, at Civic Center Park.

In addition to a presentation by Hancock and Hickenlooper, the 9/11 ceremony will feature a free commemorative concert by former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman John Fogerty and Colorado’s own Big Head Todd and the Monsters.

The Lumineers had been slated to headline the event, but the Denver-based band pulled out, citing logistical conflicts with its tour schedule.

For the 10th anniversary of 9/11, Colorado hosted the largest commemoration of the attacks outside of New York and Washington, D.C. That ceremony featured a musical tribute by the Beach Boys and Tyler Ward, as well as a performance by the Colorado Symphony Orchestra.
