A wildfire sparked in Fraser near the town’s library Monday afternoon is fully contained, officials said.

Some streets nearby the fire were evacuated as a precaution.

The Grand County Office of Emergency Management issued a plea on its Facebook page for people to stay clear of the area as firefighters and emergency responders access the scene.

At about 1:50 p.m. firefighters were in the “process of cleaning up,” said Grand County Undersheriff Jim Campbell, and people who were evacuated were being let back in. The fire was about 2.5 acres in size.

Thunderstorms — with lightning but no rain — were expected in the area Monday, along with winds gusting up to 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures in the mountains, and elsewhere in the state, are above seasonal norms Monday and the weather is contributing to potential fire dangers.

A cause of the fire was not immediately released.

Fraser is a town of about 1,000 people in the Middle Park Valley along the Fraser River and U.S. Highway 40.
