Ryder Hesjedal of Boulder-based Team Garmin-Sharp crashed Monday on Stage 3 of the Tour de Suisse and is out of the race.

The crash occurred 90 miles into the 123-mile stage from Montreaux to Meiringen. According to the team, Hesjedal suffered multiple severe contusions and abrasions to his right wrist, hip and knee and left shoulder, elbow and knee.

Preliminary tests revealed no fractures, and he will remain under observation by the team’s medical staff. A team release said that he may be able to train in a few days.

Canada’s only Grand Tour winner after capturing last year’s Giro d’Italia, Hesjedal, 32, was in fourth place after Sunday’s Stage 2, only 11 seconds behind the leader.
