A man suspected of burglarizing a gun store in southern Jefferson County tired to escape sheriff’s custody by climbing into the ceiling of an interview room when he was left alone.
At 3:05 a.m. Monday deputies responded to a motion alarm at Denver Guns & Ammo, 8250 W. Coal Mine Ave., according to a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office media release.
When deputies arrived a man was spotted running from the store. A short time later, deputies took a suspect into custody, a man who was hiding in a nearby trash bin. Two handguns, property of the store, and drugs were also found in the trash bin, according to the release.
“An additional AR-15 was found on the roof of the gun store, a second AR-15 was recovered from the entrance to the business and a third handgun was found on the sidewalk outside of the store,” the sheriff’s office said. ” It appears as though the suspect entered the store through the roof and fled through the front picture window after shattering it.”
The sheriff’s office identified the suspect as 29-year-old Christopher Snow.
Snow complained of minor injuries and was initially taken to Littleton Hospital. He was released a few hours later and was taken to the sheriff’s office south precinct to be interviewed.
“While investigators were outside of the interview room, Snow stood on a chair and lifted himself up into the ceiling tiles in an attempt to escape,” the sheriff’s office said.
The building was evacuated and Snow was found inside duct work above the drop ceiling.
An investigation is ongoing and additional people may be involved.
Snow has been booked in to the Jefferson County jail on suspicion of second degree burglary, attempted escape, possession of a controlled substance, theft and criminal mischief.
