Ready for a health care career that is exciting and provides a sense of purpose? A future as a respiratory therapist may be the perfect fit.

Respiratory therapists evaluate, treat and care for patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders. Some work on the front lines of patient care as part of the team of first-responders in emergency situations. Others help patients find solutions for long-term disorders.

Training to become a respiratory therapist at Pima Medical Institute’s Denver campus provides students the opportunity to prepare for their new careers alongside others with similar goals – those dedicated to making a difference to others, and to gaining the knowledge that will comprehensively prepare them for the profession.

Earlier this year, a team of students from Pima Medical’s Respiratory Therapy program showcased the knowledge they gained during the program by taking first place at the state Sputum Bowl competition.

Hosted by the Colorado Society for Respiratory Care, the Sputum Bowl is a “Jeopardy”-style knowledge contest where teams of three students answer medical and professional questions related to the field. Teams of respiratory therapy students from colleges across Colorado participated in the event.

As state champions, the team from Pima Medical Institute will compete at the National Sputum Bowl Championships hosted by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) later this year.

The training offered at Pima Medical not only helped the students prepare for the Sputum Bowl, but ultimately helps them prepare for entry-level positions at hospitals, long-term care facilities and other health care offices. In just under two years, graduates are eligible to sit for the national
certification exam to become a registered
respiratory therapist.

Pima Medical Institute is focused on helping students accomplish their goals. In addition to respiratory therapy, the college offers a variety of health care-related associate degree and certificate programs. Students receive a well-rounded education, combining classroom studies with on-site training at some of the best hospitals and medical facilities in the community.

Pima Medical Institute offers financial aid to those who qualify and provides career planning services. To learn more, call 1-888-442-5998 or visit pmi.edu. For consumer information, visit pmi.edu/consumerinfo.
