GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Federal regulators have proposed fines for a Williams Co. contractor and subsidiary following a natural gas liquids leak that was discovered in March near Parachute.

The Williams Cos. Inc. has blamed a faulty pressure gauge for a leak of an estimated 10,000 gallons of hydrocarbons including benzene, with some contamination reaching Parachute Creek.

The Daily Sentinel reports () the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is seeking fines of $10,200 against Badger Daylighting Corp. and $7,854 against the Williams subsidiary Bargath LLC. OSHA alleges the companies violated hazardous waste operation and emergency response safety standards.

Williams says Bargath is accused of failing to have a fully developed written program for safety, site control, training and decontamination related to an emergency release of waste. Bargath is working to resolve the OSHA citations.
