GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Grand Junction City Council has chosen someone to fill one vacant seat.
KKCO-TV in Grand Junction reports () the City Council voted 3-1 Monday to appoint Duncan McArthur for the seat once held by Harry Butler, who died in June.
McArthur was immediately sworn in to serve until the next regular election in April 2015.
The City Council hasn’t decided yet when to fill the site of former Councilman Rick Brainard, who resigned this month following his arrest in April on allegations that he slapped and pushed his girlfriend.
A special election could have been called to fill the vacant City Council seats, but the City Council narrowly voted to appoint new members instead. Supporters said a special election would have cost too much.
