GOLDEN, Colo.—The judge in the case of a teenager charged with killing a 10-year-old Westminster girl has ruled that doctors will be allowed to testify the girl was sexually assaulted.
The Denver Post reports that attorneys for Austin Sigg objected to the doctors’ designations as experts (). Sigg is accused of kidnapping and killing 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway last year.
Jefferson County District Court Chief Judge Stephen Munsinger ruled the doctors are sufficiently experienced to be considered expert witnesses at trial.
Also Wednesday, the judge ruled that jury selection for Sigg’s trial will begin Sept. 20. Opening statements are set to begin Oct. 3.
A separate trial will be held later on allegations that Sigg tried to abduct a jogger months before Jessica was killed.
